The ALMM Rule: The #1 Reason Solar Subsidies Are Rejected

Imagine spending ₹1.6 Lakh on a new solar setup, only to be told your ₹78,000 subsidy claim is denied. In 2026, this is happening to thousands of applicants for one specific reason: Non-ALMM compliant solar panels.

What is the ALMM?

The ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) is a strict registry maintained by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). To qualify for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, every single solar panel on your roof must be manufactured domestically and listed on the current ALMM registry.

How to Protect Yourself

Some installers try to increase their profit margins by mixing in cheaper, imported, non-ALMM panels. When the DISCOM inspector arrives, they check the serial numbers on the back of the panels. If even one panel is non-compliant, the entire subsidy is rejected.

Your Checklist:

  • Demand your installer write "100% ALMM Compliant Panels" directly into your contract.
  • Cross-check the quoted panel brand against the latest MNRE ALMM list before installation begins.
  • Verify the serial numbers with the installer on delivery day.
