Cabinet Approves ₹13,037 Crore Jaipur Metro Phase 2 with 41 Km Corridor

The Union Cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project with an estimated cost of ₹13,037.66 crore, paving the way for a major expansion of urban transit infrastructure in Jaipur.

The project involves the development of a 41-km North–South metro corridor, which will run from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, significantly enhancing connectivity across key parts of the city. The corridor will include 36 stations, designed to serve major residential, commercial, and industrial zones.

The new metro line will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the central and state governments. The funding structure will include equity participation, subordinate debt, and multilateral financing, in line with national metro rail policies.

Strategically, the corridor will connect critical locations such as Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKIA), Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, and key urban clusters, making it a backbone for city mobility. Certain sections, especially near the airport, will feature underground stations, while the rest of the alignment will largely be elevated.

The project will integrate seamlessly with the existing Phase 1 metro corridor, enabling smooth interchanges and creating a more comprehensive, citywide metro network. This integration is expected to significantly boost ridership, which currently stands at around 60,000 daily passengers on Phase 1.

With a targeted completion timeline around 2031, Jaipur Metro Phase 2 is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and support sustainable transportation in one of India’s fastest-growing cities. The project also aligns with broader initiatives such as Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), aimed at promoting planned urban growth around metro corridors.

Overall, the approval marks a major step toward transforming Jaipur’s public transport landscape, strengthening connectivity across the city’s north–south axis while supporting long-term economic and urban development.
