The recently inaugurated Delhi–Dehradun Expressway is set to be extended up to Mussoorie, in a move aimed at further strengthening connectivity to one of Uttarakhand’s most popular hill destinations and easing congestion in Dehradun.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the extension will help decongest traffic in Dehradun city while providing seamless high-speed connectivity from Delhi to Mussoorie, significantly benefiting both residents and tourists.
The expressway itself, inaugurated by Narendra Modi, is a 210-km, six-lane access-controlled corridor built at a cost of around ₹11,800–₹12,000 crore, reducing travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to nearly 2.5 hours.
The proposed extension comes as part of a broader infrastructure expansion drive in the state, with projects worth approximately ₹1.3 lakh crore currently under development in Uttarakhand.
Officials have emphasised that the expanding road network will act as a growth catalyst for tourism, logistics, and regional development, particularly in hill regions that depend heavily on road connectivity.
The move is also aligned with the government’s broader focus on enhancing connectivity to Char Dham routes and Himalayan tourism circuits, which are witnessing increasing footfall.
The expressway and its proposed extension highlight the government’s push toward high-speed, access-controlled road infrastructure, which is increasingly becoming central to India’s development strategy.
With Uttarakhand positioned as a key tourism and strategic state, the ongoing and upcoming projects are expected to transform regional mobility, unlock economic opportunities, and strengthen connectivity across difficult terrains.
