Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured its largest-ever domestic order in the metals and mining segment from JSW Steel, with the contract estimated at ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore.
The order has been awarded to L&T’s Minerals & Metals business vertical and is classified by the company as a “major” contract, reflecting its scale and strategic importance.
The scope of work includes comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for critical process facilities such as blast furnaces and steel melt shops. These facilities will form a core part of JSW Steel’s capacity expansion programme.
The projects will be executed across multiple locations, primarily at JSW Steel’s manufacturing hubs in Ballari, Karnataka, and Paradip, Odisha.
This large-scale contract is aligned with JSW Steel’s long-term strategy to increase its crude steel production capacity from around 35 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to over 50 MTPA by 2031.
The order also reinforces the long-standing partnership between L&T and JSW Steel, which spans several decades and includes the execution of multiple metallurgical and industrial projects.
From L&T’s perspective, the win marks a significant milestone, strengthening its leadership position in executing complex industrial and metallurgical infrastructure projects. It also adds strong visibility to its already robust order book and reflects continued demand in the domestic steel and infrastructure sectors.
The development comes at a time when India’s steel industry is witnessing large-scale capacity expansion, driven by rising infrastructure demand and long-term economic growth projections.
