POWERGRID Appoints Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as Chairman & Managing Director

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced the appointment of Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026. The decision was approved by the company’s Board of Directors during its meeting held earlier today, in line with the order issued by the Ministry of Power dated March 18, 2026.

Shri Vamsi, who previously served as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID, has officially assumed charge of the CMD position from April 1, 2026. His tenure will continue until July 31, 2030, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The company confirmed that Shri Vamsi is not related to any member of the Board or Key Managerial Personnel and is not debarred from holding the office of CMD by any regulatory authority, including SEBI.

An accomplished engineering professional, Shri Vamsi brings over 33 years of extensive experience across the power transmission and telecom sectors. He has held several critical leadership roles within POWERGRID at both regional and corporate levels, contributing significantly to the organisation’s strategic growth.

He holds a degree in engineering along with postgraduate diplomas in Planning & Project Management and Management from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram. He has also completed advanced leadership programmes, including the Harvard Manage Mentor (HMM) Program and executive education at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

Over the course of his career, Shri Vamsi has demonstrated expertise across key business domains such as project execution, procurement, commercial operations, regulatory affairs, asset management, and telecom. As a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell, he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s regulatory strategy and was instrumental in enabling its transition into competitive bidding within the transmission sector.

During his tenure as CEO of POWERGRID Teleservices Limited, he led the expansion of the company’s telecom business and initiated its first data centre project, marking a significant step in its digital transformation journey. As Director (Projects), he also oversaw record capitalisation and capital expenditure achievements.

Known for advocating digitalisation and mechanisation, Shri Vamsi has introduced transformative reforms in project monitoring and execution, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and delivery outcomes across large-scale infrastructure projects.
