POWERGRID Wins TBCB Bid for Tumkur-II Transmission Project to Integrate 2.7 GW Renewable Energy

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route for a key interstate transmission project aimed at strengthening renewable energy integration in Karnataka. The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on March 30, 2026.

The project, titled “Transmission System Strengthening at Tumkur-II for Integration of Additional Renewable Energy Potential (2.7 GW)”, will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. It is designed to facilitate the evacuation and integration of an additional 2.7 GW of renewable energy into the national grid.

As part of the scope, the project includes the development of a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line traversing Karnataka. It also involves augmentation works at the Tumkur-II Pooling Station, including the installation of Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) and associated line bays to enhance transmission capacity and grid reliability.

The development marks another step in strengthening India’s interstate transmission infrastructure, supporting the country’s growing renewable energy capacity and ensuring efficient power evacuation from generation hubs to demand centers.
