REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, marked a significant milestone in healthcare accessibility with the inauguration of the Sankara Eye Hospital in Saharsa, Bihar. Funded through a ₹11.55 crore CSR grant under the flagship initiative “Bringing Vision to Bihar,” the facility was opened to the public in a high-profile ceremony.
The hospital was inaugurated by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister, alongside Shri TSC Bosh, Director (Projects), REC Limited, and other senior government dignitaries.
The new facility is poised to significantly transform the ophthalmic healthcare landscape of Northern Bihar over the next five years. The project aims to deliver nearly 1.5 lakh outpatient consultations, offering comprehensive eye screenings and specialised treatment services to patients across the region.
It also targets approximately 40,000 cataract surgeries, contributing toward the eradication of preventable blindness through advanced surgical care. With a strong focus on inclusive healthcare, the initiative will provide free and subsidized medical services to underserved and economically marginalized communities.
Backed by a CSR grant of ₹11.55 crore from REC Limited, the hospital has been equipped with advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical technology, specialized outreach vehicles for conducting eye-screening camps in remote rural areas, and modern operational infrastructure including fully equipped patient wards and sterile operation theaters.
