Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday conducted an on-site inspection of the state’s first dedicated women’s sports college being constructed at Chhamaniya in Lohaghat, Champawat district.
The ambitious project, being developed at an estimated cost of ₹256 crore, is designed to offer international-standard sports infrastructure exclusively for women athletes.
Focus on Timely Completion and Quality Standards
During the inspection, the Chief Minister reviewed construction progress and directed officials and the executing agency to complete the project within the stipulated timeline while maintaining strict quality standards.
He emphasized that the institution would play a transformative role in empowering women athletes from Uttarakhand, particularly those from rural and hilly regions.
World-Class Sports Infrastructure
The sports college will feature:
- Football ground
- Astro-turf hockey ground
- Volleyball and basketball courts
- Synthetic athletic track
- Multipurpose hall and auditorium
In addition, the campus will include:
- Hostel facility for 300 girl students
- Academic block and administrative building
- Staff quarters and guest house
The Chief Minister stated that the infrastructure is being developed in line with global standards to help athletes compete at national and international levels.
Boost for Women’s Sports in Uttarakhand
Dhami said the college would create an integrated ecosystem of training, education, and residential facilities, offering structured opportunities for talented girls to pursue professional sports careers.
The project is expected to significantly boost sports development in the state and enhance Uttarakhand’s representation in national and global competitions.
Union Minister of State and Member of Parliament Ajay Tamta, along with senior officials and public representatives, was present during the inspection.
