BEML Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to jointly pursue and execute metro rail projects across India and international markets, marking a strategic step toward expanding India’s footprint in urban mobility solutions.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the two organisations, enabling them to jointly identify, bid for, and execute metro rail projects by leveraging their complementary strengths. While BEML brings expertise in rolling stock manufacturing and engineering, DMRC contributes its extensive experience in metro project execution, operations, and consultancy services.
The partnership is being positioned as an export-oriented collaboration, signalling a shift from a traditional supply-based model to a more integrated EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) approach, where both entities can offer end-to-end metro solutions under a single umbrella.
This development comes at a time when BEML is expanding its global presence, having recently secured its first overseas metro rolling stock order worth around USD 60 million in Africa. The MoU is expected to build on this momentum by enabling both organisations to jointly target opportunities in emerging international markets, including regions such as West Asia.
Officials from both organisations highlighted that the collaboration would not only strengthen India’s position in the global metro rail sector but also contribute to the development of indigenous technologies, including propulsion systems and critical infrastructure equipment such as Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
The agreement reflects a broader push toward self-reliance and global competitiveness in urban transport infrastructure, combining manufacturing excellence with project execution expertise. As metro rail networks continue to expand rapidly across cities in India and abroad, this partnership is expected to play a key role in delivering integrated, scalable, and globally benchmarked transit solutions.
