MCG to Develop 25 EV Battery-Swapping Stations Across Gurugram to Boost Clean Mobility

In a significant step towards promoting clean mobility and addressing rising air pollution, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private agency to establish 25 battery-swapping stations across the city.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Additional Commissioner Ravinder Yadav, outlines the development of battery-swapping infrastructure to support a wide range of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, cars, and heavy vehicles. Under the arrangement, the private agency will be responsible for the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of the stations, while MCG will provide land and facilitate necessary approvals. A revenue-sharing model will be implemented in line with central government guidelines.

The proposed battery-swapping stations will be strategically located across key sectors including 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 39, 40, 45, and 46, along with prominent markets and community centres. Key public locations such as Subhash Chandra Bose Park, Nehru Park, and Vatika Chowk have also been identified under the project.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya stated that the initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the city, contributing to a reduction in air pollution while advancing Gurugram’s transition towards sustainable and green urban development.

The MoU will remain valid for a period of 10 years, during which amendments or additional agreements may be introduced based on evolving requirements. Officials clarified that the current agreement is non-binding and will serve as the basis for detailed contracts to be formalised in the future.

As part of its broader air pollution action plan for 2026–27, MCG has also proposed the development of 20 new EV charging points for government buses by the end of 2026. Of these, 10 charging points each are planned for commissioning in Q3 (July to September) and Q4 (October to December). Additionally, 10 battery-swapping stations have been proposed under the plan, with five targeted for completion between October and December 2026.

Alongside EV infrastructure expansion, MCG has outlined several complementary measures to curb vehicular pollution. These include augmentation of city bus services, deployment of additional water sprinkling machines, procurement of large and medium mechanical road-sweeping equipment, and plantation of native Indian shrubs on unpaved surfaces.
