PMC Moves Ahead with Plan for Parallel Rajaram Bridge to Ease Sinhagad Road Congestion

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated plans to construct a new bridge parallel to the existing Rajaram Bridge in a bid to address persistent traffic congestion along Sinhagad Road.

The proposed bridge is expected to be developed alongside the current structure, likely on the Swargate-facing side, to improve connectivity between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar DP Road. Authorities are in the process of appointing a consultant to finalise the technical design, feasibility, and cost estimates for the project.

Rajaram Bridge serves as a critical two-way link in the area, but increasing traffic volumes and limited alternative routes have resulted in frequent bottlenecks. Despite recent infrastructure upgrades, including flyovers commissioned in 2025, congestion at this junction continues to be a major concern for commuters.

The proposed parallel bridge forms part of a broader strategy by the civic body to enhance traffic flow and reduce pressure on key corridors. Additional infrastructure developments in the region include a new river bridge connecting Suncity to Karvenagar, which is nearing completion and is expected to provide further relief once operational.

Officials believe that the new bridge, along with ongoing and planned projects such as metro connectivity and road corridor improvements, will contribute to a more efficient urban transport network in the Sinhagad Road area.

The proposal is currently at a planning stage, with further clarity on timelines and project execution expected after the completion of feasibility studies.
