Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited has secured a ₹130.22 crore contract from Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) for ballastless track work on the elevated section of the Kochi Metro Phase-II corridor, strengthening the company’s presence in India’s expanding metro rail infrastructure sector.
The contract includes the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of ballastless track and standard gauge connections for the elevated section of the Phase-II corridor. The project is scheduled to be completed within 16 months from the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance.
Kochi Metro Phase-II, also known as the Pink Line, is an 11.2-km corridor connecting JLN Stadium to Infopark in Kakkanad through 11 stations. The corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Kochi’s residential areas and key IT and commercial hubs such as Infopark, SmartCity, KINFRA, Rajagiri Valley, and the Cochin Special Economic Zone.
The project has an estimated cost of around ₹1,957 crore and forms a major part of Kerala’s urban mobility expansion strategy. The corridor is also designed to provide multimodal integration through connections with bus transport systems, water metro services, and public bicycle-sharing infrastructure.
Industry observers believe the order will further strengthen Texmaco Rail’s infrastructure and metro rail portfolio at a time when multiple Indian cities are accelerating investments in urban transit systems. The company has been actively expanding beyond freight wagon manufacturing into rail infrastructure, metro systems, and allied engineering segments.
Earlier this year, Texmaco Rail had emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for the same ballastless track package under the Kochi Metro Phase-II project.
The Kochi Metro Phase-II corridor is expected to play a key role in reducing traffic congestion and improving public transport access in Kakkanad, one of Kerala’s fastest-growing IT and business districts. Once operational, the line is projected to benefit thousands of daily commuters travelling to the Infopark and SmartCity campuses.
