The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has awarded a contract to Omega Elevators for the installation of travelators (moving walkways) to enhance passenger movement between the Namo Bharat RRTS station in Ghaziabad and the Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) Delhi Metro station.
The initiative is aimed at addressing a key gap in multimodal connectivity, as commuters currently face inconvenience while transferring between the two transit systems despite their proximity. The travelators will be installed along the connecting infrastructure to ensure smooth, quick, and comfortable movement of passengers, particularly during peak hours.
These moving walkways are expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, elderly passengers, and those carrying luggage, reducing walking effort across the interchange stretch. The solution is especially relevant in high-footfall areas like Ghaziabad, where seamless transfers are critical for improving overall transit efficiency.
The project is part of NCRTC’s broader strategy to strengthen multimodal integration across the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor, India’s first regional rapid transit system. By improving last-mile connectivity within station premises, the authority aims to make public transport more accessible and user-friendly.
Travelators, commonly deployed in airports and large transit hubs, are increasingly being adopted in urban mobility projects to minimise transfer time and reduce congestion within interchange zones. Their introduction in Ghaziabad reflects a growing focus on passenger convenience and infrastructure integration in India’s evolving urban transport systems.
The contract award marks another step in enhancing commuter experience across the NCR, where integration between metro, rapid rail, and other transport modes is becoming central to infrastructure planning.
