PM Modi to Inaugurate 594 km Ganga Expressway from Prayagraj to Meerut on April 29

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, on April 29, 2026, marking one of the most significant highway infrastructure launches in the state in recent years.

The expressway, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), is a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor designed to dramatically improve east–west connectivity across Uttar Pradesh. Once operational, it is expected to cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from nearly 10–12 hours to around 6–7 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

Built at an estimated cost of over ₹36,000 crore, the Ganga Expressway is one of India’s longest highway projects, passing through 12 districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Shahjahanpur, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.

The project has been developed with a focus on high-speed mobility, logistics efficiency, and regional economic integration, supporting industrial clusters, agriculture supply chains, and freight movement across western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The expressway also includes multiple bridges, underpasses, and service roads designed to ensure uninterrupted high-speed traffic flow.

Officials have highlighted that the corridor will play a key role in reducing congestion on existing highways, improving road safety, and boosting connectivity to emerging economic zones along its route. The expressway is also expected to strengthen access to Prayagraj, a key religious and cultural hub, especially during large-scale events and pilgrimages.

The inauguration is expected to mark the completion of a major phase in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure expansion drive, which has seen rapid development of expressways and highway corridors over the past decade.

With its launch, the Ganga Expressway is set to become a key backbone in the state’s transport network, supporting faster movement of goods and passengers across one of India’s most densely populated regions.
